When I first started offering my group sound healing events, I called them, “Hypnotic
Sound Baths” because I fold in hypnosis and more people are familiar with the term,
“sound bath”. As I have grown my skills and gifts, I’ve really settled into what truly aligns
with my practice and as a result, the experience has shifted. It’s no longer just bathing in
sounds; it’s being guided on a journey by sound!
Let me describe what a typical Hypnotic Sound Journey is like in the Grounding Room.
At the beginning of the session, we gather in circle and land in community energy by
introducing ourselves and sharing our intentions for the evening. This helps to form a
connection and trust with each of the people in the room. Check out my blog on the
importance of community in sound baths for why this is so significant.
From the share, I gather the emotional and energetic needs of the group and use it to
inform the vibrations and sounds that will be healing for the collective. I invite people to
get cozy and comfy either laying on cushiony mats or reclining on a large comfy couch.
People are encouraged to bring a blanket to tuck in with.
I verbally guide you with gentle sounds into the Hypnotic Sound Journey. Healing
techniques and modalities are harmoniously woven through the sound to create a
supported and safe space. The soothing sounds gently ease you into a meditative state.
From there, I utilize a variety of instruments, featuring crystal bowls, percussive drums
and shakers, flutes, and the oldest instrument of all – the voice. The sounds merge and
weave together to form a guiding sound tapestry.
The sounds bring up and move you through trapped stuck emotions and into a deep
connection with all parts of you. Some describe the session as a sober psychedelic
experience. Others describe it as a connection with something greater – a spiritual
experience. And others will feel it physically in their body. Everyone experiences the
same sounds and yet is guided on a journey that is perfectly matched for what they
need at that time.
When the time is right (it varies), I gently guide them out of the journey. I encourage
people to capture the thoughts, feelings, images, and sensations they experience in a
journal. Writing it down helps them to capture the magic of the experience and helps
them connect to and understand what took place.
After journaling, we go around the circle again and share what we are comfortable with
about our journey. This allows a deep seeing and understanding of ourselves and each
other. I love seeing the reactions from others as their experiences connect or as they
hold compassionate space for someone sharing something heart-felt.
This experience is powerful for those wanting to connect to themselves and looking for
a community where they can belong with other amazing people!
