How Does Tobogganing Relate to Hypnosis?
We all have patterns of behaviours that we do over and over. In our brain there are billions and billions of neurons. When we have a feeling, experience or display a new behaviour a series of neurons in our brain form together to create a track or pathway. Each time we repeat that our brain travels that neural pathway. The more travel that pathway the more automatic our behaviour becomes. When the behaviour is automatic, our brains recognize the path so easily that we can recreate that feeling or behaviour without even being conscious of doing it. Think of tying your shoes for example. We don’t have to think about which lace we cross over which first – we just do it. And if we get slightly distracted from tying the lace midway through the process, our brains just pull us back on track and we continue tying our shoe.
It is similar when we go tobogganing. We find a hill of freshly fallen snow and pick the spot we’ll sled down. The first time might be a little slow as we create the path in the snow. However, each time you slide down the hill you pack the snow down a tiny bit more. The more you travel down the hill the more that pathway becomes entrenched. The pathway becomes so grooved that even when you start your sled slightly off center, it is pulled back on the same track.
The same thing happens in your brain. Each time you repeat the same behaviour the neurons in your brain make an even stronger connection or pathway. As a result, when we try to consciously alter our behaviour slightly those old patters or grooves pull us back to go down the same old path. Good news! Accessing our unconscious mind through hypnosis allows us to reset our grooves. We are able to put up a roadblock to the old path and instruct the brain to follow this new path. That is how hypnosis can help you to get rid of that smoking addiction you had for 15 or more years. Or how you can release an old trauma or phobia. Setting new pathways in your mind allows you to reset your course. And the wonderful thing about hypnosis is it is quick! Unlike other forms of therapy it deals directly with the root source and quickly. Most clients become non-smokers in 1-2 sessions. Phobias can be released in under an hour. Hypnosis is powerful for change. Let’s talk about how I can help you reset an old path you no longer want to travel on!
