Why Community is so important in my Hypnotic Sound Baths
When I stared offering my Hypnotic Sound Baths a few years ago, I knew they would have a slightly different flavour than other Sound Baths I had experienced. I wanted to fold in a hypnotic induction into the beginning to help guide people deeper into the experience.
I also wanted it to be community focused; Especially after we had been isolated for so long in our houses! There was a new level of loneliness and disconnection that we were all facing.
There are so many times when we leave the house to do something in hopes of feeling less alone. For example, we go to a yoga or fitness class in hopes to interact with humanity, to feel some sort of connection – best case, make a new friend.
We arrive at our location and stand in line, avoiding eye contact, looking at our phone. When the doors open, we file into the class and maybe timidly smile at one person. Then, at the end of class, we head straight to the car feeling deflated and amazed at how we could feel even more alone being in a room full of people versus sitting at home on the couch. What the heck?!
We all have a strong instinctive need to be seen and heard by others. As humans we have a core need to belong to a community/pack/tribe – whatever word you want to use.
There’s an incredibly high number of people experiencing this lack of healthy belonging and community and are suffering mentally as a result. We’re craving nourishing and healing connections.
Seeing and feeling this all influences the way I structure my Hypnotic Sound Baths.
At the beginning of each Sound Bath, after an introduction from myself, we go around the room and share our name, how our day/week has been and usually one other interesting tidbit. Each person is encouraged to share as little or as much as they are comfortable with.
The sharing portion is such a beautiful way to start fostering connection and safety with each other before embarking on a Sound Healing experience together.
After everyone has had their turn, I give an explanation on how the sound portion will unfold and then we dive into journey.
As we gently emerge from the sound experience, I encourage people to capture in a journal or notebook any thoughts, feelings, images or sensations that they noticed. We do this because as we emerge, those nuggets of wisdom and understanding can slip away like a dream and so writing it down right away helps to bring it into our conscious awareness.
Often in a group what we are experiencing in our own lives is often mirrored back in other people’s lives. When we share in the beginning, we start to realize that we are not alone in what we are dealing with and so many find comfort in this. After the Sound and journaling component, we see it again as we share our sound adventure. Although each person experiences differing sensations, images, sights, feelings and so on, there is often mirrored themes and threads of others’ experiences and our own. Eyes light up as someone else shares something that affirms their own experience. The threads creating bonds and community are discovered in each other.
After every Sound event and witnessing how impactful each person was to the experience as a whole, it affirms to me how important it is to create and offer a community for those wanting to heal and grow. The smiles on the faces, the contact info being shared, and the meaningful friendships have been a cherished gift to all.
I encourage you to come out to an event and experience an incredible connection to a safe, caring and supportive community.
I look forward to welcoming you soon
